"Far away, this ship is taking me far away, far away from the memories, of the people who care if I live or die".
Definitely the song of the day for me. I don't know about you but I tend to find some song everyday, which I end up listening to throughout the day. It will be buzzing when I'm getting ready in the morning....I play it on my phone when I am writing the darn control specifications for water treatment plants....when I'm driving back from work, I play it loud enough to get many heads turning....and it will be still on when I'm getting ready for bed. Basically it gives me company through the highs and lows of the day. Today undoubtedly it was 'Starlight'. A very catchy tune comprising intelligent piano notes and excellent use of guitar, which goes pretty well with the lyrics. Of course as the legendary R D Burman once told Gulzar - "Doesn't matter if the song is English or Hindi, new or old - it will always be the tune that the people buy, not the lyrics". The English band 'Muse' have done exactly that and come out with a money-spinner in Starlight. I think I would give a lot of credit to the lead singer and songwriter, Matthew Bellamy. He is unbelievable when singing on high notes and is known for his acumen with a piano. What more, he was recently ranked 29th out of the 100 best guitarists in the world.
Lately I've been listening to a lot of Lost Prophets and Snow Patrol, whose single 'Chasing Cars' is one of my current favourites. Few years ago, I could have easily declared it to myself that Trance is the only genre I enjoy and should listen to. Majority of my friend circle at University was Indian and it was a pity that hardly any of them appreciated Trance the way I did. But it is hard to hide the fact that I have always pampered myself with a bit of rock too....Can't forget how me and Vicky used to go mad for some of 'Summer of 69'....How me and Rohit used to embody 'U2' during the karaoke nights at Bar1....If not rock, what about every Friday night when I'm shaking my brown ass to a catchy hip-hop number in the club. So basically I've realised that if in future a person asks me about my choice of music, it would be very unfair to Guns'n'Roses or Jay Z if I just say Trance! Instead I think I would try to be more open and flexible as far as the music genres are concerned. How Hip-hop/R’n’B has captured the UK market in the past 5 years is astonishing. You put Chris Moyles on every morning on the way to work, and you’re bound to listen to an R’n’B song every 3 tunes. You can’t help but laugh to Moyles’ jokes and swing your body to the likes of Nelly Furtado and Fergie. It is quite odd when the guy in the front is watching you do a Nelly on your car seat, but who cares-it works! The awful traffic of M25 feels less annoying and the drive to London much quicker. Then there are these new faces in the music industry like Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs who have taken the UK charts by storm. Personally I love to hum some of their recent singles like ‘I bet you look good on the dancefloor’ and ‘Oh my god’, but that is as far as it would go for me. They belong to that mixed genre of Dance/Punk/Rock and most of their songs just sound similar. They are not something I would listen to while getting ready for a party on Friday night or when I am just chilling out on a Sunday afternoon.

Sigh!! Screw this, who the hell am I kidding....I was not born to listen to some black guys talking about gun culture or some stupid 23-yr olds ripping their shirts off to appease a Punk frenzy crowd. Trance is the Music I have known for the past 7 years and Armin Van Buuren is the one who gives me company when I am sad or jumping with joy. You can never re-produce tunes like ‘Children’ and “Adagio for Strings’ (one of the other reasons why Platoon left me with a deep impression and still is one of my all time favourite movies). When you hear series of albums like ‘In Search of Sunrise’ and ‘Magik x’, you can’t help but agree with the fact that D J Tiesto is the top DJ in the world for a few years now. As opposed to the general opinion, Trance is not something that you only enjoy when you are on Pills or have drunk a stupid amount of Absinthe. Well at the end of the day to enjoy Trance, you don’t have to listen to it---you have to feel it in you!
Anyway before my PDA’s battery dies off or I fall asleep in my bed, I would end this post with a strong recommendation to download the single ‘Starlight’ by rock band ‘Muse’ or buy it if you are one of those anti-piracy twats!
